Frequently Asked Questions

How long and how many times a week is a counseling session?

Counseling sessions are 50 minutes and are typically once a week.

How long will I be in counseling?

The length of time a person remains in counseling depends upon individual needs and goals set with the provider. Often, there is a very specific problem that can be resolved in a limited number of counseling sessions. Sometimes a client seeks an on-going learning process and prefers to remain in counseling for a longer period of time.

What are the fees and will you accept my insurance?

Method of payment and general payment policy are generally agreed upon at the time of your first contact. Please check with your insurance company to determine eligibility, as insurance companies can, at times, independently approve treatment with out-of-network providers at an "in-network" cost.

At this time, Dr. Scott Anderson can accept Fidelis, United Health/Optum, MVP/Beacon Health, and Excellus Blue Cross/Blue Shield health insurances. Self-payment is also an option, with sliding-scale income-based fees available on a limited basis.

Ruth Van Wie, LMHC, is able to accept Magellan, Espyr, and ENI insurance, but she is unable to accept Medicaid, Fidelis, Medicare, or Blue Cross/Blue Shield at this time. Self-Payment is available.

Dr. Robert Anderson accepts Medicare, Medicaid, and Independent Health insurance plans. Self-payment is available.

Will I need to take medications?

Our office does not prescribe medication. If medication is warranted, you will be referred to your primary care physician or to a psychiatrist who can prescribe them for you.

Since I work all day, do you have evening hours?

Evening hours are available on a limited basis. Evaluations, however, are only scheduled during daytime

office hours.
